Procida, Italy

Procida, Italy

Set in the Bay of Naples, Procida offers a colourful and character-filled starting point for exploring some of southern Italy’s most celebrated cruising grounds. The Moorings base in Procida is a franchise base and is not available to all yacht owners. Specific rules apply, so please contact us for more information about owner access. For eligible owners, Procida brings together volcanic islands, historic waterfronts, clear Tyrrhenian waters and the unmistakable pleasures of Italian coastal life.

The Moorings franchise base is operated by Sailitalia on the island of Procida. The nearest major airport is Naples International Airport, and the island is reached from the mainland by ferry or hydrofoil. Procida’s compact size, pastel-coloured harbours and strong local identity make arrival part of the experience, while the base provides a convenient gateway to the islands and coastlines surrounding the Bay of Naples.

A short sail west leads to Ischia, known for its lush landscapes, thermal springs and impressive Aragonese Castle. Farther offshore, the Pontine Islands offer a more remote cruising experience. Ponza combines dramatic cliffs and sea caves with a lively harbour, while Palmarola is prized for its clear water, rugged scenery and secluded places to anchor. Ventotene adds ancient Roman history and a distinctive island atmosphere.

To the south, Capri rises dramatically from the sea, with limestone cliffs, grottoes and fashionable waterfront destinations. From there, owners can continue toward Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, where towns such as Positano and Amalfi climb steeply above the water. The region offers an appealing mix of scenic passages, historic sites, boutique shopping and dining, with each harbour offering a different perspective on southern Italy.

Cruising from Procida involves a blend of shorter island passages and more exposed stretches of open water. The waters around the Bay of Naples are generally easy to navigate, but local traffic, changing weather and busy harbours require attentive planning. Marina space can be limited during the height of summer, so advance reservations are recommended where available.

For eligible owners, Procida is a distinctive Mediterranean destination with remarkable variety within reach. One itinerary can focus on the nearby Phlegraean Islands and Capri, while a longer visit can extend to the Pontine Islands or along the Amalfi Coast. Ancient history, volcanic landscapes, renowned cuisine and lively waterfront towns make Procida an engaging base for discovering southern Italy by yacht.
