Watch Video: Both Programmes Explained
Our Guaranteed Income Programme
Charter yacht ownership has become a widely recognized concept among sailing and cruising enthusiasts, presenting itself in various forms. Here, we’re highlighting our bestseller: the Guaranteed Income programme.
Under this arrangement, we’ll manage your yacht at one of our bases for 5 to 6 years, providing you with a monthly income equivalent to 8% of the purchase price—a figure guaranteed by contract and unaffected by your boat’s actual activity.
Throughout this period, you’ll enjoy up to 12 weeks of usage, sailing from our diverse bases on similar yachts. Once the programme concludes, you have the option to retain ownership of your boat, sell it through our Brokerage service, or opt for a trade-in to initiate a new programme.
Your Yacht Ownership Journey
You join by purchasing a sailing or power yacht from our available inventory. Our prices include the yacht’s equipment including the best upgrades to ensure the most comfortable, spacious, and modern yachts. The boat is then operated by The Moorings at one of our bases for a duration of 5 to 6 years.
12 weeks of annual use
You or your immediate family can sail up to 12 weeks a year.
Monthly guaranteed income
You receive a guaranteed income every month regardless of the charter activity.
No operating expenses
We cover all of your maintenance, dockage, insurance, and repairs while your boat is in the programme.
Access to worldwide bases
Leverage your points for travel adventures spanning diverse destinations across the globe at Moorings and Sunsail bases.
Use sister ships
You have the option to utilize equivalent sister ships from both The Moorings and Sunsail, or you can opt to upgrade to larger models.
Owner care team
This specialized team assists owners in scheduling owner trips, organizing owner appreciation parties and events, and remains available to address any owner requirements or inquiries
Choose between 3 solutions at the end of the programme:
Keep
You may decide to keep your yacht and go cruising around the globe, or bring her home to enjoy at your leisure.
Sell
Our brokerage department, with offices all around the world, can list your yacht for sale during the last year of the programme and line up a buyer for the end of your programme (standard 10% brokerage commission).
Trade
Many of our owners are 3rd, 4th and 5th time yacht owners with us! We have a brokerage support team that will take your 5-year-old yacht on a trade in, and from there you can purchase a new Moorings Yacht and start the programme over again.
Whatever you decide, your boat will go through our world-renowned, comprehensive phase-out maintenance process

Yacht Ownership FAQs
Programme basics
It’s a lease‑back programme: you purchase a Moorings yacht, then lease it to us at The Moorings to use in our charter fleet. In return, we pay you a fixed guaranteed monthly income and handle all operating costs and management for the contract term.
Contracts typically run about 5–6 seasons depending on model and base; the exact term and end‑date are specified in your individual ownership contract and can vary by yacht type and location.
The programme is available on our sail catamarans, monohulls, and powercats at our bases in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Americas, and other global locations, though availability by model/base changes over time.
Financial structure
We set a fixed annual return as a percentage of the yacht’s purchase price. This income is paid regardless of how often your specific boat is chartered, because we pool and assume the charter risk.
Owners receive income monthly, in the contract currency (typically USD, EUR or GBP) depending on where you buy.
Under the Guaranteed Income programme, we pay for berthing, routine maintenance, insurance, cleaning, standard repairs, and normal operating expenses for the yacht throughout the contract.
Owners are responsible for their own financing/interest costs, coast guard documentation or registration, personal travel to and from the bases, and any incidentals associated with their owner use (fuel, provisioning, skipper/crew if hired).
We recommend consulting your own tax advisor because rules vary by country and individual situation.
Yacht usage and travel
Owners receive a fixed number of owner‑use points per year (up to 12 weeks per year) which can be split between using your own yacht at its home base or equivalent “sister ships” at other bases.
Yes. The programme allows exchange use: instead of always using your specific hull, you can book similar yachts (by size and class) in other destinations worldwide, subject to availability and the rules in your agreement.
There are no blackout dates. High‑demand periods (major holidays, peak weeks) are often subject to early‑booking rules or may count more heavily against your owner‑time allowance.
The charter rate for the yacht itself is covered by your owner time allowance, but you generally pay for fuel, provisioning, optional extras (kayaks, water toys, Wi‑Fi), cleaning or turnaround fees where applicable, and any skipper/crew you choose to add.
Yacht management and maintenance
We handle the day‑to‑day operations: regular cleaning, engine and systems servicing, routine haul‑outs, cosmetic upkeep, and safety inspections, following fleet standards so the boat stays charter‑ready throughout the programme.
Core maintenance is done to our fleet standards without you needing to approve each task.
Damage caused by charter guests is handled through our insurance and charter damage deposits; owners are generally not billed for normal wear and tear or insured guest damage, though excluded events or owner‑caused damage could be treated differently under the contract.
End-of-programme options
At contract end, you typically have three choices:
Sell the yacht, often via The Moorings Yacht Brokerage.
Trade into a new yacht and start a new programme.
Take full possession of your yacht and use it privately.
If you trade in, we will propose a trade value for your existing yacht that can be applied toward the purchase of a new model under a fresh ownership programme.
Yachts are handed over as ex‑charter boats that have been maintained to fleet standards, with all the usage expected over a 5–6‑year charter life. Every contract includes the option for independent survey ahead of handover. Many owners then plan a post‑handover refit (cosmetic refresh, new sails/canvas, electronics upgrades) before heading out for extended cruising.
If you choose to sell, The Moorings Yacht Brokerage (or another brokerage house) can market the boat as an ex‑charter vessel. You sign a brokerage agreement, pay a commission on sale, and benefit from the broker’s access to buyers familiar with ex‑charter catamarans and monohulls.
Eligibility, locations, and process
The programme is open to qualified buyers from many countries; eligibility depends on meeting purchase requirements and financing approval if applicable.
We offer bases in the Caribbean (e.g., BVI, St. Martin, Grenada), Mediterranean (Croatia), the Americas (Bahamas, Belize), and selected other regions; which bases are open to new Guaranteed Income yachts depends on demand and fleet planning in a given year.
Typical steps are: contact Moorings Yacht Ownership, discuss budget and preferred model, receive personalized financial projections, arrange financing if needed, sign a purchase and management contract, then schedule your first owner trip once the yacht enters service.
Owners have a dedicated Owner Care Team who help with bookings, trip planning, and end‑of‑term decisions, coordinating with local base staff in each destination you visit.

All I can say is that we have been very impressed. The staff handling bookings and sales have been excellent. The marina staff and management throughout the world have been great. Basically everything I have been promised has been delivered. That is the reason we bought another boat. At the end of the day, we trust a company that has been around for so long.

“It is an affordable way to have a beautiful boat. The key word is affordable. Because the yacht is in the ownership program, it helps subsidize the cost of the yacht, And it is nice to be able to go to a beautiful place and enjoy your boat.”
