For eligible owners, Portorosa provides direct access to the Aeolian Islands, an extraordinary archipelago shaped by volcanic activity, ancient history and island traditions.

The Moorings franchise base is operated by Sailitalia at Marina di Portorosa on Sicily’s northern coast, between Capo Tindari and Capo Milazzo. Catania-Fontanarossa Airport is the primary airport identified for the base. Portorosa’s protected marina provides a convenient departure point for the passage north to the Aeolian Islands, with services and provisioning options available in and around the marina.

Vulcano is often the first stop, with dramatic volcanic scenery, dark beaches and memorable views from the trail toward Gran Cratere. Nearby Lipari is the archipelago’s largest and most populated island, offering a historic town, marina services, restaurants, shops and an archaeological museum that reflects thousands of years of Mediterranean history.

Farther west, Salina is known for its green slopes, vineyards, capers and relaxed coastal villages. Filicudi and Alicudi offer quieter surroundings, rugged landscapes and a sense of greater remoteness. Panarea combines polished waterfront style with secluded coves and archaeological sites, while Stromboli provides one of the region’s most remarkable sights, an active volcano rising directly from the sea.

Passages between many of the Aeolian Islands are relatively short, allowing an itinerary to combine sailing, swimming, snorkeling, hiking and time ashore. Anchorages and harbors vary in their exposure, and some can become uncomfortable when wind or swell changes. Because marina and mooring availability may be limited during the busiest months, flexible planning and close attention to the forecast are important.

The cruising area generally experiences warm Mediterranean weather and gentle to moderate breezes, often from the northwest or west. Tides are modest, although local currents and conditions around headlands and between islands should still be considered. The volcanic terrain creates a dramatic backdrop throughout the archipelago and makes each island feel distinct from the next.

For eligible owners, Portorosa opens the door to a destination where natural spectacle, historic towns and Italian island culture are closely connected. A week can encompass several very different islands, from the green landscapes of Salina to the volcanic drama of Stromboli, while longer itineraries create opportunities to explore more of Sicily’s northern coast.
